Take the Guesswork Out of Hosting Your Domain

Website hosting has, for the most part, been simplified for the masses. That’s a good thing because with so many people eagerly registering domain names for personal or business use, finding a great hosting company is easier than ever.

While there are still some areas of website hosting that downright mystify many people, the most important aspects of configuration are simplified thanks to detailed instructions provided by most hosting companies.

Domain Names

Before your website becomes live on the Internet, hosting of your website requires that you first register your domain name. This is that memorable and keyword friendly name that everyone will enter into their browser’s address bar to find your website.

If your domain is for a business website, an appropriate domain name that relates well to your actual business is essential. The reason is when someone searches for your website, a domain name that doubles as a keyword will help in getting your domain listed in the search engines and help your placement within their results pages.

On the other hand, if your domain is for personal use, then a personally unique domain that identifies you is a great way to start. For example, complete names like “yourname.com” are becoming more common. Or, “yname.com” or even “onlyname.com” are good choices, assuming they’re available.

Web Hosting

Typically, when a domain name is registered, the option to setup domain hosting is also available from the same company. There are many choices for hosting your website, it can range from very simple one page websites, all the way to business enterprise websites with unlimited bandwidth, unlimited websites, thousands of email addresses, free FTP accounts, and the list goes on. As the list grows, so does the cost.

Thankfully though, even the most expensive options are less expensive than only a few years ago, all thanks to competition.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth is the amount of capacity in terms of gigabytes that your site is allowed to transfer. Only the least expensive plans will limit the bandwidth, forcing you to purchase a more expensive plan as your website becomes more active.

Server Space

Server space is the amount of server hard drive space your website is allowed to use. Again, only the least expensive plans will limit this amount. However, for a simple website 100GB is more than enough, which is a typical amount provided in a basic plan.

Databases

Each website has its own database that contains all of the information for that particular website. The lower cost hosting plans usually limit the size and number of databases, while the more expensive plans offer unlimited space and number.

Backups

One very important aspect of owning a website is to keep it up to date and safe for your visitors. If your website is hacked, or damaged from a virus or malware, having a current backup ready to go is crucial to your site’s existence.

It is a good idea to check with your hosting provider to confirm that all of files contained within the website are backed up at least daily.

Additional Websites

A great feature with website hosting plans is the ability to host an unlimited number of websites, as long as the server space and bandwidth stay within the prescribed limits.

Choosing an unlimited plan will ensure that all of the websites will have sufficient space and bandwidth to operate correctly. Having this feature is very handy, but certain steps are involved to correctly establish each website on the Internet.

Email Accounts

Most web hosting providers offer a certain number of email accounts that are associated with your domain. These are extremely useful for business sites as well as personal accounts. Many providers offer hundreds, thousands, or even unlimited email accounts.

The information above is intended to take some of the confusion out of the decision making process when the time comes to decide on the features of a quality website hosting provider.

The information provided regarding: “Website Hosting Demystified” should lead you in the right direction and ensure that your website’s functionality and safety will not be a concern.

Domain Buying and Selling

Domain Buying and SellingI just recently got into Domaining (domain buying and selling). I was under the impression that it was going to be easy. You buy good domain names and you sell good domain names.

Unfortunately nothing is ever that easy, is it? Should have known better! Nothing worthy is ever really easy in life. Well here are a few tips I’ve learned while trying to sell my domain names.

First off, it has to be a really good domain name. People will argue whats considered a good domain name. Some will say its one with no hyphens, no numbers, good keywords, good extension.

Others will say that the page rank matters, and that’s how you tell the worth of a domain name. And some say none of this matters. The only thing that matters is what the end buyer thinks.

Personally I try to take a little bit of all 3 of those recommendations and come up with my own little rules. There’s some people on Sedo that have sold a domain name that almost no one found appealing or worth much, for well over $25,000.

I don’t know if the person that bought it just didn’t know any better, or if they really found the domain name to be worth a lot to them.

Secondly it can’t just be a domain name you bought that day and are trying to sell. I wish it worked like this, unfortunately people will laugh at you most likely when you tell them the registration date of your domain name your trying to sell to them for $65,000 and its just a week old!

Another thing is the domain cant just be sitting around in your registrar or parked somewhere. I thought Parking helped when I first started out, because I have a name that’s about 6 years old, and supposedly the older the better. And it has been parked on and off for those 6 years. But, no, this really didn’t help me out at all.

To have a domain worth selling, its a really good idea to get it developed. Even if its just a one page website, it still will add to its worth.

Take this example. The domain I had for 6 years that was usually always parked is now worth a measly $50. The new domain name I bought in March  and had immediately gotten developed is now worth $450.

And every 2 weeks it raises by $20. So yes, development is VERY important if your looking to sell a domain name. I’m hoping soon I can sell the newer domain for $1-3k. Well, I’m crossing my fingers anyway!

Domain Real Estate can actually be a VERY lucrative business if you know what your doing, where to look for these “worthy” domains, have money to BUY the domains from people, and then sell them for a higher price yourself, pay attention to all the domain selling/buying websites.

There’s a few major pro’s out there that are well known for being the TOP DOGS of this sort of business. Buying domains for $500k, developing them, raising page rank etc, and then selling them for $1.0 million.

I don’t know about you, but I would be very happy with $1.0 million! Heck I would be happy with $1-3k which is the reason why I’m keeping my domain name until sold.

Anonymous Domain Registration

Anonymous Domain RegistrationWhat constitutes a website? Have you ever given it a thought? A website is property owned by you in the world wide web. It is exactly like your own home in the Internet.

In order to create a website, the first thing to do is register a domain name. A domain name is the url identification of your website.

Registering a domain name is one of the first things one does while building a website. In order to know more about creating websites.

A domain name is your own to choose. It can be anything like yourwebsitename.com, yourwebsitename.net, etc.

The second part of the domain name is known as the Top Level Domain, or TLD. It can be any of the many available–.com, .net, .org, .info, .co.

Here are the important things before considering registering a domain name.

1. Read the Fine Print

When you register a new domain, the registrar gives you the fine print that you should read carefully. This involves all the details of the domain name, including the privacy, the data required, and any fees for things like domain transfer.

It also gives you the time required for certain tasks like re-registration, updates, and domain transfer. Without reading this fine print, it is very difficult to get a domain registered perfectly.

2. Hidden Fees?

There may be a transfer fee involved if you are transferring a domain to or from a registrar. For instance, after registering your domain, if you want to get it running under another registrar, this is where the transfer fee comes in.

You should check the fine print to find the details about this. Some registrars may be able to deny your transfer if a fee is not paid as mentioned. And some of these registrars may hide the transfer fee well so that you are unaware of it.

3. Registration Period

When you are registering a domain, your registrar may give you an option to register it for more than a year. It may be two, three or five years at a time.

In fact, after registering the domain, you should actually check if the domain is in fact registered for five years or only one year.

Some registrars simply pay for one year of registration and renew the domain at the end of the year. They may also have a fine print detail saying that the domain registration fee is non-refundable.

Now, they can simply provide you with crappy service so that you cancel the registration after a year. In such a case, the registrar can keep all the money you gave for the five-year registration. Check for how many years your domain is actually registered under the domain Whois service.

4. Anonymous Domain Registration: Whois Edit and Domain Privacy

When you register a domain, as per ICANN rules, you have to display your entire contact information to the world as the owner of the domain.

If you are uncomfortable with displaying your information, most of the web hosting companies provide you with an option to mask your registration by using domain privacy. You should know about these fees if you are uncomfortable displaying your information.

Also, one thing you should know is the name and the email address given in the Whois database belongs to the actual owner of the domain.

5. Domain Slamming

Some unethical hosting companies do something known as Domain slamming. This is done when you are almost nearing your domain’s expiration date, you will get an email in your inbox about renewing your domain name.

Only thing is this particular email is not actually from your hosting company. It is from a shady domain registrar that has taken your email address from the Whois record and generated a spammy renewal notice.

As soon as you click on this and submit a fee, if your domain is not locked, you could easily lose your domain.

6. Domain Authority Code

Whenever a domain transfer is required, a domain authority code is required. This is a unique code that has to be given to the new domain registrar in order to get the domain transferred.

The current registrar may take forever to give you this code if it is not in its best interests to lose the domain.

Conclusion

It is very important, that you work only with professional web hosting companies and domain registrars.

It is easy to find the best domain registrars out there. You have to take maximum care in finding the right hosting companies to get your website running smoothly.

Expired Domains List

Expired Domains ListIf you are thinking about making a web site of your own, why not purchase an expired domain name. Many people wonder where to go when purchasing an expired domain name.

If you are thinking about purchasing an expired domain name, this article may help you. There are many reasons to buy an expired domain name for your new web site.

There are  numerous options for buying a domain name,  buying a domain from expired domains list is one of the better options.

Benefits of Expired Domain Purchases

If you are going to sell something on the internet, it really is in your best interest to buy an expired domain name. These are great for getting instant web traffic even thought those visitors are not coming for you.

One of the biggest reasons to buy an expired domain name would be to capitalize on the traffic of that web site. If you purchase the right expired domain name, you can have huge amounts of traffic right away.

The company who had the expired domain name before you had mostly had spent time build a site which made some returning visitors bookmark the site. Those visitors may not know that previous owners allowed the name to expire so they will still attempt to use that bookmark. They will come to your domain if you purchase it.

In addition, the company who had the web site before may have spent time to include links to other sites, which means your new expired domain name will get traffic from those sites. Those links to your site are called reciprocal links and in some search engines, the more you have the higher your page rank will be.

An expired domain name may also have high page rankings within the search engine, which is an awesome thing. This means you can have free traffic that way, all you have to do create your site with the same keywords as the previous owners.

The same keywords will be easy to use if you buy the expired domain name of a company who sold products as you will now sell.

Most of the time with expired domain names you do not get to purchase the web site content, but the internet archives may have a snap shot of that domain for you to view. I am not advocating that you do the same design but it would be wise to just view the pages if possible to see the products they sold in comparison to your own.

Expired domain name can be a goldmine for the right company you can benefit from someone else’s hard work because they built up the traffic. This is a great idea if you want to snag an expired domain name for yourself.
